the Wright brothers [the Wright brothers]
Wilbur Wright (1867–1912) and Orville Wright (1871–1948), US engineers who built the first successful aircraft that used an engine and was heavier than air. They first flew their aircraft, called Flyer, on four successful flights on 17 December 1903 near Kitty Hawk, ↑North Carolina. Their longest flight was 852 feet/260 metres, and lasted 59 seconds.
